About Norway Chess and Total Chess
Norway Chess is a Norwegian organisation headquartered in Sandnes, Norway. We organise the Total Chess World Championship Tour — an international chess championship series sanctioned by FIDE (the International Chess Federation), with events held in multiple countries.
Our operations involve partnerships with host cities and venues, commercial sponsors, broadcast and media partners, technology suppliers, event service providers (catering, hospitality, security, transport), and merchandise suppliers.
Our Commitment
We are committed to respecting fundamental human rights and promoting decent working conditions across our operations and business relationships. This commitment is grounded in:
UN Universal Declaration of Human Rights
Fundamental human rights and freedoms
ILO Core Conventions
Labour rights, working conditions, freedom of association
As an organisation that operates internationally and works with partners across borders, we recognise that our responsibility extends beyond Norway.
Due Diligence Process
We conduct due diligence in accordance with the OECD six-step framework:
Embed responsible business conduct into our policies and decision-making
Identify and assess actual and potential adverse impacts
Take action to prevent, cease, or mitigate adverse impacts
Track implementation and results
Communicate how impacts are addressed (this statement)
Provide for or cooperate in remediation when appropriate
Our due diligence covers our own operations, our direct suppliers, and — to the extent feasible — our broader supply chain and business partners.
Key Risk Areas
Through our assessments, we have identified the following areas that require particular attention:
Event operations in host countries
Working conditions for temporary event staff, venue service workers, and construction workers may vary by countryWe work with host venues and local providers to ensure labour standards are respected
Merchandise and branded goods
Supply chains may involve regions with elevated risk for poor working conditionsWe require suppliers to demonstrate compliance with applicable labour standards
Hospitality and travel
Hotels, transport, and catering may employ workers under varying conditionsWe prioritise partners who demonstrate responsible employment practices
Measures We Take
We include requirements on human rights and working conditions in contracts with key suppliers and event partners
We assess new suppliers and partners before engagement, with attention to labour practices
We prioritise working with established, reputable partners in each host country
We are developing a formal supplier code of conduct to be implemented ahead of the Tour's first full season
We engage in dialogue with partners about their own due diligence practices
Findings
To date, we have not identified any actual adverse impacts on human rights or working conditions directly caused by or linked to our operations. As an organisation currently in a pre-launch phase (the Tour launches in 2027), our supply chain is still being established. We will update this section as our operations scale and our due diligence assessments mature.
