Caissa's Web Chess Engine
Back
The Mars Chess Engine is the most sophisticated, reliable and
easy-to-use platform on which two people, anywhere in the world, can play chess and
communicate over the Internet.
Using a compact, Java-based client-side applet and a powerful server-side game
controller, the Mars Chess Engine offers a powerful, flexible and open system for playing
chess on the Internet. There is no software to download and no cryptic commands to be
learned in order to use it. Using any Java-capable web browser, a chess player loads the
applet on an as-needed basis, performs chess maneuvers naturally by clicking and dragging
the pieces, and chats with the opponent at any time by simply typing the message in a chat
box and pressing the Enter key.
Using a custom-programmed implementation of the protocols used to communicate over the
Internet, the Mars Chess Engine offers the immediacy and real-time playing benefits of a
"telnet" connection with the easy-to-use and graphical nature of the World Wide
Web. Clocks are adjusted "on-the-fly" to account for the opponent's net-lag
factor, giving the most precise system of time-keeping in any Internet chess
implementation. Flexibility is also a key to using Mars--five different configuration
options are available to customize the applet to your specifications. These options
include board size, board color, the "slide" speed of your opponent's pieces,
audio notification of an opponent's move, and the ability to complete a move by clicking
on a graphical clock.

Please note that you must be using a Java-capable browser to use the Mars Chess Engine.
If your browser does not support Java, Caissa's Web offers the HTML-based "Graphical
Board" interface that any web browser can use to play live chess on the Internet.
